Connecting percentages and decimals

Percentages are another way of expressing a decimal number. Since we can write percentages as a fraction with 100 as the denominator, converting percentages to decimals is straightforward.

For example:

\begin{align}45% &=\dfrac{45}{100}\\\\ &=\dfrac{40}{100}+\dfrac{5}{100}\\\\ &=\dfrac{4}{10}+\dfrac{5}{100}\\\\ &= 0.45\\\\\\ 110\% &=\dfrac{110}{100}=1\dfrac{10}{100}=1.1\\\\ 18\% &=\dfrac{18}{100}=0.18\\\\ 2\% &=\dfrac{2}{100}=0.02\\\\ 145\% &=1\dfrac{45}{100}=1.45\end{align}
